About the Authors

Melissa and her daughter, Lexy live in a small south Texas town (home of the famous King Ranch). Melissa is a bookkeeper for several companies. She has had a poem published, and has contributed to an article in the Texas Monthly magazine, and the California Chronicle. She is currently working on a book about being a single mom. Lexy attends school as an all “A” honor student. Lexy recently won "The Top 5th Grade Achievement Award", and this past year, "The Best Interview Award" at the Distinguished Youth of Texas Pageant. She is a Cadette in Girl Scouts, and she hopes to one day become a Veterinarian. Melissa & Lexy are both involved in Girl Scouts.  They love exploring new places, and going to the movies.  They have also come to realize that they may soon have to become Zoo Keepers if they do not stop adopting animals!

About the Illustrator (Book 2)

Gary Torkelson was born and raised in the California Central Valley. Gary attended Thomas Downey High School where he became interested in graphic arts and created portraits of famous singers and movie stars. While attending Modesto Junior College, he branched out with classes in photography, color & design, sculpture and drawing. He attended California State University Stanislaus, where he took his first class in oil painting, which has become his artistic media of choice. His professional career has centered around computers, cameras, advertising and computer graphics. He enjoys baseball, listening to music and attending concerts, spending time with family and friends, hiking in the wilderness and exploring coastal beaches. He currently spends his time volunteering on community projects, working in the mobile electronics industry and pursuing his long time dream of becoming a famous artist.  Contact:  gary.torkelson@gmail.com

 John Aregood

About the Illustrator (Book 1) 

John Aregood grew up on a family-owned farm in rural South Texas. In high school he played on the baseball and basketball teams and was an active member of the local FFA chapter and church. After graduating high school he went on to pursue a bachelor in landscape architecture and a master of science in land development at Texas A&M University. While attending Texas A&M University he traveled to Germany where he studied European architecture and practiced landscape architecture with architects in Cologne. He currently resides in College Station where he spends most of his time studying real estate, capital markets, investment management, and land development. He also spends his time designing residential landscapes, illustrating books, and volunteering as a youth league basketball coach.
